How to write a follow-up email after a meeting
- Thank them, briefly. One line is plenty.
- Restate what was agreed. Decisions first, then next steps.
- Name owners and dates. Including your own actions. Clients notice when you commit to a date.
- Attach what you promised. Slides, a proposal, a link.
- Suggest the next touchpoint. A specific day and time beats "let me know".
Subject lines that get opened
- Next steps from today's meeting name
- Recap and actions: project, date
- Great to meet, here's what we agreed
- Following up on our call about topic
Common mistakes
- Too long. If it scrolls, it's a report, not a follow-up.
- No owners. "We'll look into it" means nobody will.
- Waiting a week. By then, everyone remembers the meeting differently.
Follow-ups that don't depend on memory
A follow-up email is only useful if the work actually happens. In BOO Workspace, the next steps from a meeting become tasks with owners and due dates, so your email and your board always say the same thing. See also the meeting recap template.
